October 4-8

We will be using the linked BBC website to review motion.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize/science/add_ocr/explaining_motion/describingmotionrev1.shtml You can click on the link or copy it and paste it into the URL window.

Monday: Speed and Graphing Review Sheet and review key terms. Be sure acceleration worksheet is completed for correction/ collection on Monday.

Wednesday: Read about forces in Chapter 10, Section 1. Define and illustrate key terms on flashcards. Workbook page 173.

Friday: Read about friction and gravity in Chapter 10, Section 2. Workbook page 174- 176.

Please note we will have a test on Wednesday covering Motion, which is Chapter 9 in the book.
*Key concepts are: distance, displacement, speed, velocity, and acceleration.
*Students need to be able to use V=D/T and A= Vf-Vi / Time.
*Students need to be able to make and interpret graphs of distance vs. time and speed vs. time.

September 28 -30

We are accelerating through motion!

Next week we will be taking a test on Chapter 9!!!! Please have students review vocabulary using flashcards and re-read the Chapter and their notes. {Note we are not reading Chapter 9, section 4, due to time and it's not in the state standards.}

Students should have a completed work section in their binders that has graded papers. Anything not graded is work in progress, which should be in it's own section. Please help your student stay organized. I asked for each student to have a SCIENCE binder for this reason. Many students have piles of math, English, science, and social studies mixed together. As a result work does not get turned in and grades suffer.

Tuesday: Read Ch9 sect3. Do problems 1-3 a,b,c for each.

Thursday: Speed worksheet. Begun in class, if not turned in then it needs to be completed and turned in on Monday!

Week of September 20th -24th

Greetings. This is the 6th week of school. Students are all aware of their current grades and what work they are missing. Students with numerous missing assignments were given a yellow paper listing all work and displaying the current grade (parents are expected to sign).

In class we are learning about motion, speed, velocity, and acceleration. We will be conducting experiments, practicing using formulas, and graphing.

Monday Homework: Read Chapter 9, Section 2. IN the workbook complete pgs. 161-162. Please make flashcards for the following: speed, average speed, instantaneous speed, velocity, and slope. Map project from last Thursday is due on Wednesday.

Wednesday Homework: Read Chapter 9, Section 3. Please complete workbook pages 163-166.

Week of September 13th -20th

This week we are learning about motion, reference point, displacement, and vectors.

In class we will practice determining displacement, relative motion, and perform a walking functions lab.

Tuesday Homework:

Read Chapter 9, section 1 on pg. 341 please answer B & C for both 1 & 2. PLEASE WRITE THE ANSWERS ON on workbook page 158.

Also make flash cards for the following: motion, reference point, distance, displacement, and vector

Thursday Homework:

Read Chapter 9, Section 2 and complete the accompanying workbook pages 159-160.

USE googlemaps, mapquest, or the linked map of Petaluma to PRINT out a map that includes the school and your home. Determine the distance traveled from school to your house- draw your route on the map in BLUE OR BLACK. Then determine the displacement- draw on the map in RED. - THIS WILL BE DUE NEXT WEDNESDAY!!!

9.10 Intro to Physics

Tonight we're trying something new. Students were given a workbook. My hope is that the workbook give help guide students to the key concepts of each section they read. We are beginning by reading Chapter 9, section 1. The corresponding pages to complete in the workbook are pages 155-158. Students may tear out the pages and hole punch them to place in their binders or they may carry the workbook between home and school.
